Brisbane Valley Apex Esk Xmas Tree Night of Fun

By Kay Davis

The Brisbane Valley Apex Esk Community Xmas Tree was held last Saturday night with approximately 1150 in attendance. Mums, dads and kids had heaps to enjoy with plenty of rides and amusements, great food and entertainment. Club President Mr Shayne Homan said “We are very pleased with how the night went and it is the first time in many years that we have had perfect weather and it certainly plays a big part of making a very successful night”. The festival started at 4pm with the crowd growing bigger as time went on, then the “Giant Lollie Drop” happened at 5:15pm with 30 kilos of lollies falling from the skies above to the many hundreds of kids and parents awaiting to collect as many as they can. Santa arrived at 5:45pm and was kept very busy handing out more lollies and hundreds of presents to the very anxious children in the community. The major raffle was drawn around 8:30 pm and the winners were 1st Bruce Horricks, 2nd Lyla Rowe and 3rd Linda Walmsley. The Club Hotel Sporting and Social Club donated $300 towards the “Best Dressed Family” and the winners were 1st Luder Family $150, 2nd Saunders Family $100 and 3rd McIintosh Family $50 , the task of  judging the best dressed family was given to Kirsten Moriarty.

As the night progressed the “Club Hotel Esk Sporting and Social Club Fireworks Spectacular” was right on time at 9pm with a fantastic display that seemed to never end.

The Brisbane Valley Apex Club would like to thank all the volunteers and organisations on the night that gave up their time to make it a success (Esk P&C, Girl Guides, Esk Scouts, Esk Hospital Auxiliary, Brisbane Valley Junior Rugby League, St Biarra Lodge, Esk RSL, Julie’s at the Rectory and the Auxiliary Fire Brigade.
